José Alberto Azeredo Lopes
José Alberto Azeredo Lopes is Minister of National Defense of the Portuguese Republic. From 1993 to 2004, he was Director of the International Studies Office of the same university. In 1999, he joined the East Timor UN Mission as Advisor, and he coordinated a mission of international observers to the referendum on East Timor independence. He was member of the working group for public service television appointed by XV Government, in 2002. From 2006 to 2011, he was President of Regulatory Authority for the Media and, in 2014, he was an expert in media freedoms with the OSCE Representative for Media Freedom. José A. Azeredo Lopes is lecturer at the Instituto de Defesa Nacional. His main research areas are in rights to self-determination, the use of force in international relations, human rights and armed conflicts.
